Acting for Teens
w/ Abby C. Smith
The Curriculum
-
Meet your instructor and fellow singers, learn new acting techniques, and perform a song or monologue for the group. You’ll receive specific feedback on your performance and will gain tools to practice during the week.
-
Share your monologue with the group: introduce the piece, the circumstances of the larger work, and fine-tune your delivery. Abby will coach each singer on how to best interpret and deliver the piece. WD Studio will provide documents for assigned monologues as needed.
-
Share your song with the group: introduce the piece, the circumstances of the musical, and deliver the text as a monologue. Abby will coach each singer on how to best interpret and deliver the piece. WD Studio will provide sheet music and tracks for assigned songs as needed.
-
This is your final draft! Learn new ways to strengthen and polish your performance while collaborating with your peers to discover new expressive possibilities. Present your material from memory, integrating the feedback and techniques from the previous classes. Learn how to best present these pieces in different settings (live audition, self-tape, cabaret, etc.) and plan for your final performance.
-
It’s showtime! Present your song and monologue to the class in your chosen mock setting (audition or performance). Dress for the part and receive final feedback from Abby and the class. After this class, you’ll be ready to perform your material wherever you go - from recitals to auditions to competitions! Celebrate your progress and plan which piece you’ll conquer next.
