Virtual Lesson Set-Up Guide

Preparing for your first virtual voice lesson? Have no fear!

This quick and easy guide will prepare you perfectly - all you have to do is focus on your voice.

Location:
Pick a room for your lesson that is:

  • Enclosed and/or free from distractions

  • Spacious enough to move freely

  • Close to your internet connection

  • Familiar enough for comfort, but organized enough for focus

Device(s):

  • If possible, use a laptop for your lesson (tablets and phones work great as a second-choice).

  • Find a way to set your laptop at approximately eye-level.

  • Keep a phone or tablet nearby to play backing tracks.

  • Be sure to enable original sound on Zoom - follow this guide.

  • Close out of other applications on your device to maximize connectivity.

Bonus Tips

  • Lighting: avoid standing directly in front of strong light sources like windows or lamps.

  • Inform those around you that you need a quiet, uninterrupted space for the duration of your lesson.

  • Have everything you need around you before your lesson begins: water, sheet music, extra device, pencil, etc.

  • Ask your instructor about external microphones to enhance your lesson experience!

If your space isn’t perfect, don’t worry!
