Make Your Music: Songwriting Fundamentals Workshop

Ready to write music that feels exactly like you and makes you want to jam?

Learn everything you need to write your own music with confidence and passion! Collaborate with internationally-renowned songwriter Robert Gillies to learn how to craft lyrics and compose melodies that will make your friends and family rock out.

In this small group workshop series, musicians will gain the skills, techniques, and tips necessary to begin their songwriting journey and take their skills to the next level.

This is the perfect opportunity to explore your creativity in a unique, authentic, and empowering setting.



The Details

  • This class series is designed for curious musicians ages 10-14. While previous songwriting experience is not required, some musical training will enable students to thrive in this series.

  • This is a four week guided workshop that explores the fundamental skills necessary to write effective songs.

    Topics will include: writing lyrics, composing melodies, exploring instrumentation, finding inspiration, cultivating your voice, producing songs, and performing your own music.

    Week 1

    Learn the fundamental concepts and tools of songwriting and get in touch with your creative self.

    Weeks 2 & 3

    Brainstorm song ideas, learn how to best store and use those ideas, and explore the song structure of your favorite songs.

    Week 4

    Polish your original song composition, develop skills of performance and presentation, and prepare to share your work with the group.

  • As performers, we must often fill the role of interpreter, molding our voices to best serve material written by other artists.

    In this course, students get to become the creators and explore the full extent of their creative capabilities. In addition to creating music that feels authentic and personally-empowering, performers will gain the perspective needed to bring a stronger sense of perspective to their interpretation of other music.

    Enrollment is limited to six singers.

Meet Robert

Robert Gillies is a Scottish songwriter/artist and multi-instrumentalist now living in Bergen, Norway. Highlighted cuts include platinum-certified track ‘Home’ performed by Bebe Rexha, X Ambassadors, and Machine Gun Kelly, and Illenium’s track ‘Beautiful Creatures’. He has worked with a broad range of artists such as Charlie Puth, Andy Grammar, Stanaj, Olivia Holt, among others.
