WD Studio Singer Makes National Tour Debut
WD Studio singer Cooper Johnsen will join the Broadway National Tour of The Sound of Music as Friedrich von Trapp!
Cooper will take over the role of Friedrich in the North American Tour of The Sound of Music starting this month. He auditioned alongside hundreds of other young singers for the role, and his audition stood out. This summer he received a contract to join the touring cast of The Sound of Music! Friedrich is the oldest son in the von Trapp family and takes his role as the “man of the house” very seriously. We know Cooper is going to bring Friedrich to life in a thrilling way!
The North American tour of The Sound of Music begins September 8 and runs through June 2027. The cast includes a number of Broadway and West End veterans.
The Sound of Music follows the story of the von Trapp family as they navigate the mounting political tensions in 1930’s Austria. Maria, a young nun at the Nonnberg Abbey, is sent to be a governess to the seven children of Captain Georg von Trapp. Maria grows close to the children through teaching them the basics of music, and finds herself falling in love with Georg. As political tensions rise, the family must make a difficult choice. Despite everything happening around them, music guides the family to love and happiness.
The Sound of Music first opened on Broadway in 1959 and quickly became a hit, then transferred to London, where it premiered in the West End in 1961. The beloved film starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer was released in 1965 and received five Academy Awards, including Best Picture. The Sound of Music was the final musical written by Rodgers and Hammerstein before Oscar Hammerstein’s death in 1960.
The Sound of Music is returning to Broadway in March 2027, and the North American Tour will lead up to the musical’s highly anticipated revival. This is only the second time the musical has ever been revived on Broadway!
